This past week was a return visit for Ghillie Lee Craig ( Carham on the Tweed ) and Colin Tait who has Ghillied on a few Tweed beats and Ghillie Glen Kedward from( Meikleour on the Tay ). The lads did not disappoint on Monday with Lee landing a cracker of 10lb from Upper Ferroch after losing one on his version of a Rusty Gunn Drainer Disc. Glen landed a lovely 8lb fish in the Cottage on a size 9 Junction Gunn. Tuesday we blanked but had a few chases on a Sunray which did not hang on and Wednesday Colin had a nice 10lb fish from Glister on a long winged Willie Gunn size 9. Thursday was a blank and also Friday but Glen saved the day on Saturday with a nice fish of 8lb from Invercannie on the same size 9 Junction Gunn. I was lucky enough to land a 3lb sea trout (picture below) in Outer Colonel on Saturday on a size 18 Teal Blue and Silver on the single handed rod, so not a bad week considering. The forecast is for cloud the next few days but no serious rain which we could do with.
Cheers Brian

The past week started off at a good height, 1ft 10ins on Monday but it wasn't long before the temperature was hitting the mid to high twenties which did not help the fishing. Tuesday was similar but the water had dropped a few inches more. Wednesday we were lucky to get two, one from Rock Heads at 7.5lb on a size 10 Ally's shrimp, a lovely 9lb licer from Upper Salt Vat on a size 7 Cascade and a very different catch of a 3/4lb Perch in the Upper Ferroch. Thursday we blanked but not being helped by the cloudless sky and high temperatures. Friday the conditions were better with some cloud but drew a blank. Saturday things looked pretty good and a Sea Trout of 2lb was landed in Grey Mare and that was it for the week. At the moment its heavy drizzle but there is rain forecast further west as a freshen up would help this week.

This past week I was expecting a few more than what we landed as the river was at a good height each day and we had an experienced party of Cairnton rods, albeit the water was quite peaty which would not have helped things. However we did have some success with a sea trout of 4lb being landed in Garden Run on Monday for Brian Parker and throughout the week another couple were lost. One rod had several offers over his couple of days but none sticking on, so very unlucky. Friday a lovely long tailed liced Grilse of about 3.5lb was landed in the Grey Mare (picture below) and then Saturday was a complete disaster for us with the river colour more like the Zambezee than the Dee . Today the river has cleared but still very peaty but the forecast is for high pressure over us for the coming week so I am still hopeful things will come good.

The week started off with the height at 9ins, a little bit on the low side but still good enough for some fish but we blanked on Monday. Tuesday's conditions were similar and same result. Wednesday we managed to get on the score sheet with a 14b fish from The Spout, and the largest off Cairnton this year an 18lb fish hooked in Glister and landed in the Long Jetty by Mike Perrin on a small Silver Stoat tube, another fish of 9lb was landed in the Garden Run and a 1.5lb Sea Trout landed in Cottage, so a very good day. Thursday the river had risen a few feet and turned very peaty which did not help us for the remainder of the week but I was happy to see one of the party land our first Grilse at 3lb from Sandy Bay and a 2lb Sea Trout in Cottage on Saturday so 3 Salmon 1 Grilse and 2 Sea Trout for the week. Hope we get rid of the peat stain for tomorrow.
Cheers Brian.

This past week started off looking really good with Mondays height at 1ft 6ins, so I was hoping for a fish or two but only a few seen. Tuesday things looked even better at 2ft 5ins although slightly peaty. Wednesday the river rose from 1ft 4ins to 2ft 1ins but should have been good for a fish. Thursday it was 1ft 1ins and a fish was hooked briefly in the Outer Colonel before it parted company. Friday it was 1ft 1ins and our first of the week was landed in the Rock Heads in bright sunshine by Gilles Moffat on a size 9 Posh Tosh of about 9lb. Saturday it was 11ins and we landed another from the Rock Heads at about 6.5lb and lost another, both on a size 10 cascade. (picture below) The river is sitting at 10ins today so again we could do with a freshen up but if last week is anything to go by I will be happy if it's that height tomorrow.
Cheers Brian

This past week we had a very competant party of Swedish Anglers that have fished Cairnton for a few years and it did not take them to long to get going on Monday with a fish of 10lb on a Cascade, an 8lb fish and a 2.5lb sea trout on a Munro Killer, all from the Grey Mare. Tuesday a 10lb fish from the Cottage on a Silver Stoat. Wednesday was a blank. Thursday Joachim Gunhammar got his first Cairnton fish at 9lb from the Grey Mare on a Cascade. (picture below) . Friday we got a licer of 12lb from Upper Ferroch, a 10lb fish from the Cottage both on a Cascade size 8 and an 8lb fish from Rockheads on a Hairy Mary, a lovely sea trout of 3lb was also landed in the Grey Mare on a Silver Stoat and surprisingly that was it for the week. We could do with a bit of water now as today it's sitting at 11ins which still isn't too low but a freshen up wouldn't go a miss and with a few showers forecast we may get it.
Cheers Brian

The start to the past week looked really good with the height at 2ft 1ins and the water temperature 50f on Monday. We were seeing a few showing, mostly down at the bottom end and a fish of 10lb was landed in Garden Run on a size 8 Blue Charm. Tuesday was our best day of the season with five fish being landed, three from Invercannie at 8lb, 9lb, and 10lb, one on a Blue Charm and two on a Ghillie, all size 8's. Two from the Cottage, one at 7lb on a size 9 Willie Gunn and the biggest at 12lb on a size 9 Cascade for Cairnton proprietor Kevin Taylor (picture below). Wednesday we landed a 7lb fish in the Cottage on a size 8 Cascade and surprisingly after a great first half that was it for the week but I was more than happy with things. The height today is 1ft 7ins and with some rain forecast this week to keep things topped up I'm hopeful for a good week.
Cheers Brian
