A good final three days of the 2014 season at Cairnton with a 10lb fish landed in Garden Run and a 10lb fish landed in Grey Mare for Andy Coull.  Tuesday a coloured Grilse of 5lb was landed in Middle Ferroch. Today a 5lb Grilse was landed in Glister for Bryan McIntosh and Dave Taylor had an 11lb fish from the Grey Mare. Bob Minto also landed a 5lb Grilse in Middle Ferroch and that was it for the 2014 season, a season that will be remembered for all the wrong reason's but at least we finished on a good note.

During the 2014 season it was good to see a lot of Cairnton regulars and new visitors fishing with us and we look forward to seeing everyone back for 2015 and hope it is a bit more productive.

The last full week of the season was quite a trying one weather wise, with lashing rain and gales blowing, to high rising water and bright sunshine, however we did manage some success and after losing a couple on Monday, Richard Harris landed an 8lb fish in the Grey Mare on a Pot Bellied Pig Flamethrower and had several offers before the river started rising on Tuesday. Wednesday was a lovely sunny day but a bit of a wash out for us with the river rising all day. Thursday was looking good for a fish or two but we only managed an old cock sea trout of 3lb. Friday was quiet considering the good conditions but Richard Harris landed a 10lb fish in Middle Ferroch on the same Flamethrower as earlier and a 4lb Grilse was landed by Jeff Milligan in Grey Mare on a Cascade tube. Saturday was looking pretty good aswell but an offer and a fish on for a short time in the Malt Steep was it for the week. The river is looking good today with the height at 2ft 2ins and high pressure dominating so I would like to think we'll get a fish or two in the last three days.

Last week started off pretty good for us considering the previous few weeks being rather quiet catch wise. On Monday two were landed. Malcolm Grainger landing his second ever Salmon in Upper Ferroch on a size 10 Ally Shrimp and the second coming from Invercannie at 9lb on size 12 Stoat Tail. Tuesday a fairly fresh Grilse of 4.5lb was landed in the tail of the Cottage on a size 12 Executioner for Ken Fenton. Thursday a coloured Grilse of 3.5lb in the Grey Mare on a size 13 Arndilly's Fancy. Friday as forecast the rain started quite late on and by Midday Saturday the river had started to rise a bit and we managed a couple of Sea Trout, one from Invercannie and the other from Upper Salt Vats. Today's height was 1ft 2ins on Cairnton Gauge and looking good for tomorrow apart from the leafs in the river but that's Autumn fishing.

The last full week in September came to an end with only one fish to report for first time Dee and Scotland visitor Lars Ottosson from Sweden. Lars landed a nice hen fish on Tuesday of about 12lb in the tail of the Cottage on a full floater and a small tungsten tube of his own tying which would have fished slightly deeper but with the height on Cairnton Gauge going from 5ins on Monday down to 3ins on Saturday we were sticking to full floaters and intermediate tips and various pattern's of flies tried but that was it for the week apart from a couple of fish that were on briefly in Upper Ferroch where there are quite a few residents but that was it for the week. The forecast this week looks fairly settled until Friday/Saturday at least so I would think small double handers or single handed rods and a stealthy approach will give us the best chance.

The past week was looking quite promising with a very proficient party on Cairnton and  not bad conditions either with the height on Monday at 7ins, Tuesday we had a rise in water of 7ins which I thought would have stirred the residents up but again not through lack of effort we blanked. Wednesday surprisingly was a blank. Thursday John Marshall saved the week as it turned out with a lovely fresh 10lb fish from the top of Middle Ferroch on a size 8 Durris Shrimp. The end of the week was quiet apart from the residents in the pools which kept the rods keen but unless we get some seasonal frosts to switch the older fish on or another good lift in water height it will be hard going.

Last week got off to a good start with Swedish angler Holger Kurth landing a fish of 15lb in the Long Jetty on a fly of his daughters tying. Holger did not have a name for it but it had everything in it. Tuesday we blanked. Wednesday a fish was lost in Garden Run. Thursday a good fish in the high teens was lost in Middle Ferroch after some time. Friday and Saturday surprisingly were blank after seeing quite a few fish in a couple of the pools but most were fairly coloured and had seen it all before. We could do with another lift in the water or a few colder nights to stir things up this coming week. The forecast is a bit of rain tomorrow but whether it's enough or not we shall see.

The first week in September started off with an Autumn feel to things, cooler in the mornings, nice day time temperatures and cooler again in the evenings. We had a new party fishing at Cairnton this week from Denmark led by Bjarne Sondergaard, and it didn't take long for Bjarne to land a fresh fish of about 8lb in the Old Garden on a Red Francis and that was it for the week apart from a few other offers. Bjarne and party were all very good anglers as they had success up river and were unlucky on their first visit to Cairnton but there is always next year. The start to this week looks promising with settled weather and water.
