The start of the 2016 season got underway with Graeme Caton's party being piped down to the river by retired Cairnton Ghillie Dave Cowie and after some light refreshment it was Ian Clarke who made the first cast in the Grey Mare and although we had a lovely fishing height for the beat we had to settle for a couple of Kelts but it was good to get started again. The rest of the week fished really well and the only thing that hampered us was the wind on occasions but with clean fish being landed on beats either side of us I don't think it will be long before we are on the scoresheet.

The 2015 season came to an end on Thursday with three Salmon, two Grilse and three Sea Trout being landed in the last four days with a fish of 8lb being landed in the Middle Ferroch on Monday on a Brown Pot Bellied Pig and on Tuesday evening regular Middle Blackhall and Dee fisher Mark Paterson landed a 14lb hen fish in the Rock Heads on an Orange Francis. Well known local fly tyer Phil Glendinning managed to break his Cairnton duck by landing a 3lb Grilse in the Garden Run, then on Wednesday Keith Collins landed a 5lb coloured Grilse in the Middle Ferroch. The finale belonged to Steven Moir who landed a fish of about 9lb in Kelpie on Thursday.

This has been a good first double bank season for us with the addition of Middle Blackhall which has fished very well this season. Well done to all of our anglers this year who have contributed to our catches and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.

Availability for February and March, up to the week before Easter is now showing on Fish Dee. The prices for fishing on Cairnton bank have been held for the 2016 season but we are pleased to announce that we have reduced the price for fishing on Middle Blackhall bank. Please contact Sarah to book your early 2016 fishing by contacting her by email sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk. Although availability for later in the season has not been published yet please email Sarah at your earliest convenience with your party's fishing and accommodation requirements.

    Thank you again,

    Cheers Brian.

We started off with our lowest height of the season on Monday at 2ins which is incredible for October, we then rose to over 4ft on Wednesday but the river remained at a good fishing height for the best part of the week with some coloured fish showing here and there but they weren't very keen apart from Friday when Christopher Harris landed a fish of about 12lb in the Middle Ferroch plus a few lost mainly in the Ferroch's and the Grey Mare but I was glad we didn't blank. Anyway, that's us down to the last 4 days of the season and I would like to think we'd get a grip of one or two albeit the coloured variety as the forecast is for very little rain and pretty settled. The last report will be at the end of next week and I hope we add a few to the count.

This past week saw Deeside enjoying some of the nicest weather of the year with temperatures during the day reaching 26c with a few frosts as daylight came in, which was forecast. Due to this we saw the river height drop away as the week went on and made the fishing a bit harder as the pools lost a bit of draw, so with conditions very much against us I was happy we managed to land three for the week. Regular John Webb managed to land a 15lb cock fish in the Spout on an Ally's on Monday and on Thursday Bill Grant landed his first ever on his 28th Birthday in Cairnton on a size 13 Silver Stoat which was about 5lb, then on Friday it was Bill's father's turn when he landed a fish of about 8lb in the Grey Mare again on a size 13 Stoat. The coming week won't be easy as the river remains low but the forecast is for some rain moving up from the south on Monday evening so hopefully we get a rise to keep us going.

With only 10 fishing days of the season left you may be tempted to pick up your rod for one last time. Check Fish Dee for our last availability of the 2015 season for Cairnton & Middle Blackhall and contact Sarah to book. sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk.

This past week we had the return of John Marshall and party who have been fishing Cairnton and the Dee for a good number of years so no lack of experience but on the fishing front things were very quiet, although we saw plenty of fish on Monday which were mostly coloured but after a good rise in water height that night into Tuesday morning I thought things would have improved a bit but what was lying in the pools disappeared and for the rest of the week we were only seeing a few here and there however John's party were happy to land three fish for the week with John landing the biggest at 11lb on Saturday morning from the Grey Mare on a size 13 Silver Stoat. This coming week looks fairly settled with high pressure dominating but as long as we get some cloud cover we should pick away so it will be back to full floaters and small flies.

Check Fish Dee for availability for Cairnton & Middle Blackhall over the next few weeks and contact Sarah to book. sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk.

This past week got off to a great start for us with Faye Buchan's party landing 3 fish in the first two days. Faye landed a lovely fresh fish on Monday of about 6lb in the Grey Mare on a Cascade and George West landed a nice fish of about 11lb again in the Grey Mare on a fly that I haven't seen before but designed by George and he has called it the Green Flee. Tuesday Faye got our biggest of the week landing a Fish of about 13lb in the Upper Salt Vats on a Cascade and that was it for our week albeit their were fish showing in all the pools but not very keen. There is rain forecast coming in tonight so hopefully that will change things for this coming week.

This past week got off to a good start with Ian Scott's party landing two on Monday. Ian landed a fresh Grilse of about 4.5lb in the Cottage and Bill Davidson landed a fresh fish of about 6lb in the same pool, both were on small Flamethrower's. Tuesday the bright conditions did not help but Bill Davidson had 9 Fish come to a Sunray in the Cottage but none of them stayed on. Wednesday visiting German angler Reinhold Poschen landed a Grilse in the Grey Mare and lost another on a Flamethrower. The rest of the week was fairly quiet although we were seeing a few coloured fish and the very odd clean one in the pool's but they weren't very keen. Yesterday the rain kicked off about midday and was fairly steady well into last night resulting in a good rise this morning to 3ft on Cairnton gauge. The change in water height should keep us picking away this week.

We still have a few opportunities over the last few weeks of the season for you to have a cast. Check on Fish Dee for availability for Cairnton & Middle Blackhall and email Sarah to book. sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk.

    Cheers Brian
