This past week we welcomed back Bjarne Sondergaard's party from Denmark and it did not take long for Bjarne to get on the scoresheet with him landing a fairly fresh 16lb fish on Monday in Middle Ferroch's on a Red Francis. Regular Cairnton & Middle Blackhall rod Allan Gowers landed a coloured cock fish of about 12lb in Cairnton on the Blackhall side on an Ally's shrimp. The next few day's were quite unsettled with the water height up and down and the clarity very peaty which didn't help but Allan Gowers saved the day on Thursday landing a fish of about 6lb in Rock Heads again on an Ally's. On Friday Bjarne landed two Grilse in the Lower Ferroch again on a Red Francis and on Saturday Dan Sloth was rewarded for his weeks effort landing a 5lb Grilse in the Grey Mare on a Francis and Richard Esp landed a 5lb Grilse in Rock Heads on an Ally's Shrimp.

The coming week looks a lot more settled weather wise so we should get a fish or two.

This past week turned out to be our joint best of the season so far with 15 Salmon to 16lb and Grilse landed plus 3 Sea trout to 4lb. The return of Kim Michelsen's party (The Blue Charms) from Denmark saw them land 11 for the week from the Cairnton bank with Kim landing the largest at 16lb from the Grey Mare on nothing other than a Blue Charm size 12. Other noteable catches were Jorn Rasmussen landing a very fresh 7lber on a size 14 low water single Blue Charm in the Cottage and Mike Nicholson landing an 8lb fish in the Malt Steep and a 4lb Grilse in Rock Heads on a size 9 Brown Pig.

The weather looks to be pretty settled over the coming week with just a little bit of rain due on Tuesday which should help keep the water fresh.

We have some availability over the last few weeks of the season so please check FishDee for available rods on either bank or contact Sarah at sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk.

This past week was pretty good with 2 Salmon and 3 Grilse landed and a few lost here and there. The largest fish of the week was a 12lber in Kelpie for Matthew Hind on a size 9 Flamethrower and netted by Matthew's 10 year old son Sam. A great memory for both of them. Other catches were John Webb landing a 10lb fish in the Cottage on a size 10 Ally's Shrimp. Howard Walton landing a Grilse of 5lb in the Longpool and a Grilse of 3.5lb in the Cottage both on a Cascade variant. Jim Cowper landed a Grilse of 4lb in the Upper Ferroch on a small Dee Sheep. The river today is sitting at a good height but has still a lot of peat stain but I am confident of a fish or two this coming week with the return of Kim Michelson's party whom I have nicknamed the Blue Charms as they fish with nothing else when returning to Cairnton each year.

This past week we welcomed Iain Ogden's party back to Cairnton albeit a slightly quieter week on the fishing front than it has been with 1 Salmon for Stewart Henderson and 3 Grilse being landed by other members of the party all on Cascades and Flamethrowers. We also lost a fair few Grilse at the net and plenty other offers and all spread throughout the beat. The condition's were pretty good apart from Tuesday afternoon when the river turned fairly filthy with Monday night rain but by the following morning it had cleared and running a bit peaty. The forecast looks reasonably settled for this coming week with a few showers floating about but condition's should be pretty good for a fish or two.

We have some rods available over the next few weeks to the end of the season on both Cairnton & Middle Blackhall so please contact my wife Sarah and she will be able to book you in even at last minute. Email sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk to book or if you have any questions. Another good week for us with 3 Salmon and 10 Grilse being landed, caught throughout Cairnton & Middle Blackhall. Noteable catches were Allan Gowers from Harwich landing 3 Sea Licers in a couple of hours to 15lb in the Rockheads, all on a size 10 Cascade's and regular Cairnton rod Graeme Caton also managing 3 Licers, all on a size 10 Ally's Shrimp. Graeme landed fish in each of the Ferroch pools. John Walne from Harrogate had a very successful trip landing 3 lovely Grilse for his three days and all on size 7 Flamethrowers. Other Fish landed were on Cascades and Ally's Shrimps. With this coming week looking fairly settled weather wise I expect we shall be down sizing on fly sizes but still have some good sport.

Remember to check on FishDee for the latest availability and contact Sarah for any enquiries and bookings. Bookings can be made the day/night before so please do not worry if it is a last minute thought. Email sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk and she will be able to help.

A very satisfying week with 7 Salmon and 8 Grilse landed. The best day was Friday when 6 were landed. During the week notable catches were Andy Ashcroft landing 2 Grilse and 2 fish to 13lb on Tuesday from the Middle Blackhall bank. All Andy's fish were on size 12 Ally's and very fresh or liced. Other notable catches were Andrew Morton landing not only his first ever fly caught salmon but Andrew managed to land his second too. Both were on a size 11 Cascade. John Shield from Durham on his first visit to Cairnton landed 2 salmon, one of 9lb in the Rockheads and one of 8lbs in the Grey Mare (picture below). We also had the Palmer family staying with us at Cairnton and they enjoyed a couple of days fishing where Luke Palmer hooked a fish in the Cottage and after seeing it a few times estimated it to be about 18lbs and as it was nearing being landed unfortunately for Luke it dropped off which was a shame as this would have been his biggest salmon. Luke's sister Josie, although being a very competent fisher did not manage to connect however the whole family hope to return next year.

Prospects for the coming week look reasonable as long as the river doesn't drop away too much and we keep a bit of cloud cover.

There is only 2 1/2 months of the fishing season left so please check FishDee for availability for your chance to have another cast. Please email sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk to enquire or book.

A great week for us with 7 Salmon and 1 Grilse being landed. Monday was a great day for Gordon Robinson from the Royal Berkshire Shooting School who landed 3 liced fish on Cairnton bank, a 15lb and 3.5lb in the Middle Ferroch followed up by an 8lb er in the Malt Steep in the afternoon. Another two were landed, one 9lb er in the Grey Mare and another of 11lb in Sandy Bay, all were on size 8 Ally's Shrimp's. The days that followed were surprisingly quiet with the odd pull and a couple lost but John Lewis landed a nice 11lb er in the Rockheads, Middle Blackhall bank on Friday on a size 10 Willie Gunn. On Saturday Andy Ashcroft landed a lovely liced 9lb fish in the Grey Mare and Grahame Reid landed an 8lb licer in the same pool.

Prospects for the coming week are looking reasonable for a fish or two.

    Cheers Brian
