This past week saw the river level drop each day which didn't help our cause but also didn't deter our parties of fishers on both sides with all putting good effort in well into the evenings and trying a variety of tactics and typically the only fish hooked was on Saturday which dropped off after a 10 minute struggle. We were seeing fish here and there but we desperately need a good lift in the water soon for things to improve but by the looks of things we shall have to wait a few more days so it'll be floating lines with light tips and smallish flies this week.

Rods still available throughout the year on both banks so please contact Sarah to book and don't forget about the week self catering accommodation and fishing packages available on Middle Blackhall in July.

This past week was looking very promising for a few fish but it was Friday before we got on the books with a liced 7lb fish for Andrew Legge from the Cottage and then Paul Devlin got our second at 10lb again from the Cottage on Saturday. We also lost a few at the net but that's fishing I suppose. I'm quite hopeful for next weeks bigger tides bringing a few more in, so here's hoping.

This past week turned out not too bad in the end with three fish landed. One from Middle Blackhall at 7lb from floating bank and two from Cairnton, one 7lb er from the Grey Mare for Ian Scott and a Cairnton first time fish for David Fisher from Sandy Bay, again about 7lb. All were on Willie Gunn variants on floating lines with 10ft fast tips. What was noted all week were the amount off kelts that are still in the pools which should slow any fresh fish down a bit. This coming week looks reasonably encouraging with a slight rise in levels yesterday and hopefully keep us ticking over for a day or two.

Rods available on both banks through April so please check FishDee for availability and contact Sarah to book. sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk.

A reasonable week for us with four fish being landed and all from our Middle Blackhall side and being equally split between Andy Ashcroft who landed two, one from the Malt Steep on Monday and one from floating bank on Friday which had been in the wars going by its markings and John Webb landed two on Tuesday from Invercannie and all fish were on the Gold boddied Willie Gunn. This week was a bit quieter compared to last with numbers of fish showing but late on Saturday afternoon there was a fair bit of activity down at Malt Steep area but they weren't hanging about. Next week looks fairly settled weather wise and with levels falling, lighter tips and a stealthier approach should pay off.

A usual please contact Sarah to book your fishing. Days still available through to end of March for both banks as well as further into the future.

This past week was pretty good fishing with 6 fish being landed to 19lb . Ian Wilson from the Borders gun room got us going on Monday with a nice 10lb er from the Middle Ferroch then followed it up with another 2 from the Plank which were landed with the assistance of regular Cairnton rod Alan Gowers who has never blanked here landing an absolute wee cracker himself off the Middle Blackhall side on Wednesday of about 8lb. Ken Rothwell also landed a lovely fish in Sandy Bay of about 10lb the same day which has been fishing pretty well this  season. Then it was first time visitor  Stewart Davies from Wales who landed his biggest fish on Thursday at 19lb from the Grey Mare and that surprisingly was us for the week although we were seeing quite a few each day coming into the Rock Heads and Malt Steep but they were not hanging about. Flies that were working were Black and Yellow tubes on 3/4 to an inch. This week looks fairly promising for one or two more with the forecast. Cheers Brian

Another fine week for us at Cairnton and Middle Blackhall with two being landed. First off the mark was Gunnar Masson from Iceland landing his first Scottish salmon of about 9lb from the Middle Ferroch on Monday morning on a Monkey and then John Webb landed a nice licer in the Malt Steep on Tuesday on a Willie Gunn and very surprisingly that was us for the week although we did get a few offers each day and saw a few here and there but that was our lot. This coming week looks pretty encouraging with the reasonable forecast so again I'm fairly hopeful for a fish or two.

We have various availability throughout the season on both banks for single rods or full parties so please contact Sarah with your enquiries.

A much better week with the rise in water of last Saturday and Sunday which settled back for Monday. We had a visit from Dee regular Phil Black from Tayside who landed his first Cairnton Fish from Sandy Bay on a Tungsten head Willie Gunn of about 7.5lb late on. Each day we saw the odd fish but it was on Thursday when regular visitor Andy Ashcroft nailed him again in the Malt Steep. It was a fresh fish with no lice of about 8lb and was caught on a gold bodied Willie Gunn making it two off either bank for Andy so far this season. Friday saw Phillip Wood getting off to a start with a lovely 9.5lb fish from the Garden Run on Middle Blackhall bank on a Long Winged Monkey. Still the odd Kelt kicking about but I would think most would have been jagged by now but should still slow any fresh fish coming in a wee bit.  This coming week looks pretty good with the rise of water yesterday and with fairly settled conditions over the next few days I would be hopeful for a fish or two this week.

    Cheers Brian

    A good week
