Not a bad week in the end with 7 Grilse being landed and a Sea Trout. The week got off to a bad start for Phillipe Koehlers party from France as the they lost some luggage en route but some of them managed with some nice footwear purchased locally. This week was very slow and although we were seeing fish in all the pools it was Saturday that produced the goods for us with 6 Grilse being landed with fish from Grey Mare, Cottage and the Glisters. I would have seen between 80 and a 100 fish going through on Saturday which is great encouragement  for our rods but you will see a cracking picture on the site of plenty juveniles that I pictured with the kind permission of Jamie from the Dee Board that they caught from the Belty burn on Wednesday. Hopefully see them in a couple of years. The usual tactics were working with small dark flies on the floating line with short poly tips. There are fish about but I think the early mornings and evenings will produce as the forecast for rain has not happened.

This last week saw the return of my good friend and fishing buddy Lee Craig from Carham on the Tweed and as usual he never disappoints with a good result from a few of the pools and all liced. Lee's fish were all landed on "the wee rod" as I would put i.e the single hander. Other Cairnton regular was Bernard Bimboes from France who never seems to blank, unlike myself, getting on the score sheet with a few crackers and oddly enough all Bernard's fish were caught on my favourite fly a Cascade. Bernard has had the largest fish from Cairnton the last two years at 20lb.

This week looks fairly promising with fish in Upper Ferroch and Grey Mare both fresh and residents, so again it will be a light approach with floating lines, long leaders and small stuff.

We have rods available on both banks this month and with good sport and fish being caught it would be a good idea to get your rod in the water one more time. email Sarah to book - sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk.

A good week again for us with over double figures being landed from both banks. Things went a bit slow later in the week and with the rise in water (photo of gauge taken on 1st July) I expected a few more but happy all the same.

Condition's look good again for the coming week so fingers crossed we have more good sport.

Another good week for us with Iain Wilson's party landing 11 salmon, 2 grilse and 7 sea trout. Sport was fairly spread out over the week with the Gledswood Shrimp coming out on top. Fish were landed in the Grey Mare, Cottage, Spout, Upper and Lower Salt Vats, Rock Heads and Invercannie. So to date this season we have had 85 salmon, 16 sea trout and 3 grilse.

A wee drop of water wouldn't go a miss this next week to keep us ticking over.

Some nice drone pics were taken in between casts this week too by Brian Douglas of the pools which was very interesting.

We have rods available on Middle Blackhall this coming week and rods available on both banks between 3rd and 28th July.

Please check FishPal for the latest availability and contact Sarah to book.

This past week saw the return of some regular rods to Cairnton and Middle Blackhall but it was down to Dee first timer Jonathan Amos getting us on the score sheet with a long tailed licer of about 8lb from the Long Jetty on a small shrimp of his own tying and surprisingly that was it it for the day but Tuesday fairly wakened us up with 10 being landed. Top rod was Andy Ashcroft landing 5 to his rod from the Middle Blackhall bank on a variety of flies ranging between small Ally's,Cascades and Willie Gunns, next was Keith Collins landing 3 and a good sea trout from the Grey Mare on a small Cascade and losing a couple and another first timer to the Dee, Nick Bancroft, landing a nice licer from the Cottage quickly followed by an 8lber for Bill Lewis from the same pool. On Wednesday Graeme Reid landed a fish of about 9lb from Kelpie and on Thursday Mark Cockburn got a lovely licer from Canary. Friday was a quiet day but Bill Lewis landed a wee topper of about 7lb in Glisters late on, on his single handed rod then on Saturday Nick Bancroft fairly saved our day again with a cracking 8lber from the Grey Mare on a small Crathie.

What a fantastic stamp of fish we are seeing and hopefully it continues.

A much better week for us with 5 fish, a grilse and a lovely sea trout landed. It is amazing what a wee bit of water can do and it would have been a few more as some were lost but that's the fishing. The first grilse from the beat this season was landed by Brian Parker in the Rock Heads from Middle Blackhall bank. Kenny Macleod landed a slab of a sea trout on Saturday of about 4lb from Middle Ferroch from Cairnton bank.

This coming week looks fairly encouraging with the water looking good.

This past week was really hard going. Weather conditions was bright sunshine and the river level was dropping but it was down to the host of the party to save our week with Mrs Betsy Festing landing a lovely 12lb er on Friday from the Upper Ferroch but we need water and the forecast is for some.

    Cheers Brian
