This past week was really hard going. Weather conditions was bright sunshine and the river level was dropping but it was down to the host of the party to save our week with Mrs Betsy Festing landing a lovely 12lb er on Friday from the Upper Ferroch but we need water and the forecast is for some.

This past week was going to be difficult due to the weather, with temps reaching 29c, not a cloud in the sky and the dropping levels. Thunder storms went over Deeside on Monday night so things were looking more promising with a good rise in water arriving on Tuesday afternoon which I thought would make our week but as quick as it went up it went down and the same old residents were lying in the pools and although there was the odd fresh one popping through they weren't stopping. This coming week looks like we shall get a little bit more cloud cover which should help.
Get your rods booked for June and July now. Check availability on FishDee.

A good way to finish the week with 4 fish landed, 3 from Cairnton and 1 from Middle Blackhall. All fish were caught on fairly small flies such as size 14 Hairy Mary's and Executioner's. It was good to see Swedish host Mats Bergman finally getting the monkey off his back after 2 years of catching sea trout and finally landing 2 licers in Invercannie, one about 9lb and the other 7lb on Thursday. Then one of his guests landed a nice wee fish of 7lb in Grey Mare. Bill Cook who was in Phil Blacks party on Saturday on Middle Blackhall landed a nice fish in Invercannie. This coming week looks fairly promising with a slight rise in water levels over night so it's looking good.
We have rods available on Middle Blackhall this week and next so please contact Sarah to book your last minute rod. Price for a rod on Middle Blackhall until 17th June is £72.00 inc VAT. There is a good chance for a fish or two.
Please check FishDee for the latest availability. http://www.fishpal.com/Scotland/Dee/CairntonAndMidBlackhall/?

This past week saw the return of quite a few of our regulars but although they all put the hours in we drew a blank for the week, mainly down to the dropping river levels and bright condition's, although there were fish about but not in the numbers of the previous week. This coming week sees the return of Mats Bergmans party from Sweden who all know the water very well so here's hoping and with a bit of rain forecast tomorrow, the middle to the end of the week should produce, again it'll be small flies with full floaters with maybe an intermediate tip here and there that will give us best results.
We have 1 rod available on Middle Blackhall tomorrow (15th) and 2 rods on Middle Blackhall on Wednesday (17th) and 2 rods on Middle Blackhall on Friday (19th). Contact Sarah now to book.
We also have 3 rods available on Middle Blackhall the following week Monday to Thursday (22nd to 25th May).
Further availability for the future for both Cairnton & Middle Blackhall can be found on the Fish Dee website listed under Cairnton & Mid Blackhall.
All bookings should be made with Sarah. sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk.

This past week was more like what it should be. 11 were landed with fish from both sides. Monday was our best day with four landed, 2 from Middle Blackhall for Mike McBain on a size 12 Willie Gunn and 2 for Vittorio Spasciani from Cairnton on a Monkey. James Robbins landed two from Canary on Middle Blackhall on Tuesday. Strangely enough we blanked on Wednesday but new visitors to the beat on Thursday, Lars Lindh and Mats Wittlock, from Sweden landing a fish a piece with Mats fish at 18.5lb from Upper Ferroch. Another two were landed on Friday with a nice 7lber for regular Jo Alfredson on Saturday. All fish were covered in long tailed lice.
Not wanting to harp on again but we could do with some water but it will be what it will be.
Another visitor to the beat last week was a cock Hobby which was taking his share of various Swallows and Sand Pipers but that's nature.
High pressure over us for the next week, so very fine leaders and far off casts with small Crathies and Executioners will give us the best chance.
We have availability on Middle Blackhall over the next few weeks, which has been very productive, so please contact Sarah to book.
Various dates throughout the rest of the year available for both Cairnton & Middle Blackhall also. Please check FishDee for the latest availability and contact Sarah to book.

A good finish to April for us with the water getting a lift which was very helpful after a low water spell. On Wednesday regular rod John Lewis got a lovely 9lber in Sandy Bay on Cairnton. Thursday strangely enough we blanked after seeing quite a few but they were probably getting a wee sniff off the water that was coming and just going through but Friday regular rod Andy Ashcroft landed two crackers from Middle Blackhall bank at 10lb and 8lb both on an Alistair Tube of 3/4" and Stewart Mackie landed a life times best from the Lower Ferroch on Cairnton - the net wasn't large enough !!! (it was a tiny brown trout) Saturday two fish were landed on Cairnton, one from the Upper Ferroch at 8lb and a lovely 16lber from Middle Ferroch plus a sea liced sea trout from Sandy Bay. Things are looking good for this coming week. So as long as the river keeps up we'll pick away.
We have 1 rod available on Cairnton on Thursday coming (4th May) then the next rod available on Cairnton isn't until June. We have rods available on Middle Blackhall over the next few weeks which is performing well so please contact Sarah to book. Bookings also being taken for both banks for later in the year so don't miss out and get your dates locked in.

This past week was fairly quiet for us mainly due to the lack of water, although we were seeing the odd fish in the pools it wasn't going to be easy. Our returning rods fished it pretty hard every day and well into the evening but the adverse weather conditions were really against us however our week was semi saved with a 3lb Sea Trout on Wednesday from the Grey Mare on a Brown Pig. We did get a slight rise yesterday of a few inches but even that didn't ginger anything up. There is rain/snow forecast this week and I would like to see a good 48hrs of it so here's hoping.
We have rods available on both banks this coming week and on Middle Blackhall throughout May so please contact Sarah to book. Current prices to end of May are - Cairnton £108.00 per rod per day inc VAT and Middle Blackhall £72.00 per rod per day inc VAT.
For further availability and prices please refer to the Fish Dee webpage for Cairnton & Middle Blackhall and again contact Sarah to enquire or book. http://www.fishpal.com/Scotland/Dee/CairntonAndMidBlackhall/?
Self catering accommodation for fishing parties is also available on both banks in either Fishers Lodge on Cairnton or Glenbogle Lodge on Middle Blackhall. Prices range from £1500 to £2700 per week per week inc VAT. Information and a photo gallery of the lodges can be found on our website. www.cairnton.co.uk
