Last week the fish didn't seem to want to stop with us. The few that we saw each day seemed intent on running further upstream. However we did manage to get 3. Top rod was Paul West who fished Mddle Backhall for 2 days and got a fish each day. They were 10lb and 7lb, both falling to a Cascade on a full floating line. Robin Gardener got the other fish, a nice 12lber in the Cottage on Cairnton bank. With today's rain we will have some more water next week, so hopefully that will improve things.

May started off with the water at it's lowest since early March. Neil Mitchell got the month started with a 9lb fish in the Cottage after losing a much bigger 1. After a rise in water levels on Wednesday, we then had to wait until Friday for another fish, when Swedish anglers Lars Lindh and Matts Jonsson landed sealicers of 11lb and 7lb respectively. Both were caught in the Grey Mare an hour apart. Lars also caught a brown trout of 4lb, which is a specimen for the Dee. Late on Saturday Matts Jonsson caught a 5lber in the Cottage pool.

We had a better week with 7 salmon and 2 sea trout. Water levels were a good height and dropped slowly all week. We saw good numbers of fish all week, especially in the mornings. John Veitch and Andy Burton, from Lochaber, shared 3 fish at the end of the week, all on small monkeys on Cairnton bank. The highlight of the week though was Gordon Skipper, who on only his 3rd days salmon fishing caught his first ever, a cracking 15lb fish in the Grey Mare on a Munro.

Water levels last week were consistently high due to snow melt, sitting between 3 and 5.5ft all week which meant we only had a few pools fishable. We did manage to land 4 and loose a couple others however. Swedish angler Anders Helgesson got an 8lb fish in Malt Steep 1st thing on Monday on Middle Blackhall and we had another 8lb fish in Lower Ferroch on Cairnton. Regular Cairnton rod Iain Ogden caught the other 2 later in the week at 10lb and 7lb, both in the Grey Mare. 3 of the fish, as with a lot of others this year, were seal marked.

We have rods available on Middle Blackhall on Monday and Wednesday of this coming week and Tuesday and Wednesday of the following week as well as 4 rods available on Cairnton on 1st May. Please contact Sarah to book.

Water levels last week were consistently high due to snow melt. We saw fish every day running through but it was Thursday before we landed 1. Yorkshire angler Bob Garnett got a 9lb fish in the Upper Ferroch on Cairnton with a Willie Gunn. Thursday was Bob's first ever day on Cairnton and he caught his fish within the first hour, so well done to him. Apart from a couple of kelts that was it for the week but with good water and overhead conditions next week it will hopefully be better.

April started off well with 2 fish on Monday.  The first, a 7lb sealiced fish, took a gold Willie Gunn in The Cottage on Cairnton.  Swedish angler, Pontus Gunlycke got his 3 week trip to Deeside off to a good start with a 10lb fish in the Rockhead and followed it up with a 14lb fish in Invercannie on Tuesday.  Both fish fell to Monkeys on Middle Blackhall.  The rest of the week was strangely quiet with only a couple of fish lost and a few kelts to show for our efforts.  Water levels took a big jump yesterday due to snow melt, so prospects look good for next week.

We have rods available throughout the season on both banks so please check Fish Dee for our latest availability and contact Sarah to Book.

Bank Report Sunday 1st April 2018

The last week of March started quite promisingly on Monday with Grahame Reid getting a fresh 10lb fish in the Kelpie on Middle Blackhall bank plus we lost 2 fish on Cairnton bank. Over the next couple of days we lost another 2 fish and landed a couple of kelts before George Boyne landed another fresh 8lb fish in the Malt Steep on Cairnton bank. I also got on the scoresheet on Friday with a 13lb fish from the Middle Ferroch on Cairnton. Prospects for this week are good, with milder conditions forecast for the second half of the week which might give another rise in water.

    Regards

    Andy
