The week was looking quite good with the height sitting at 7in and the water temp at 56f but this would rise as the week went on with the bright sunshine most days, however it was Tuesday before we connected with one 7lb licer from Grey Mare and another 7lb licer from Upper Salt Vats, both were on a size 12 Williegunn. Wednesday an 8lb fish was landed in Upper Ferroch and another lost and again on a Williegunn. Thursday a Sea Trout of 2lb was landed in Grey Mare and that was us for the week. The soaring temperatures every day didn't help our cause even for the evening and early morning fisher with the water temp by Saturday reaching 62f. The coming week is for high pressure so after the rods get their bearings on Monday I'd say early mornings and evenings being the best chance.

Well, we got the rise I was hoping for with the rain last Sunday so the river was 4ft 6in on Monday morning and not looking too good but we did get a fish of 7lb from Grey Mare and a 2lb sea trout from Middle Ferroch so it was a good start. Tuesday we blanked. Wednesday we got a 7lb fish from Grey mare & a nice 3lb sea trout from Rock Heads for Lee Craig - Ghillie on Carham,Tweed. (pictured below) Thursday we got three fish, the biggest being 14lb for Islamouth Ghillie Glenn Kedward from the Rock Heads. (pictured below) Glenn also got a 12lb licer from Invercannie, both on a size 10 cascade. Also our first grilse at 3lb was landed in Glisters & a sea trout from Upper Ferroch. On Friday we landed a nice 7lb fish in Upper Ferroch & that was it for the week.
Cheers Brian.

The very warm air temperatures during the day and bright sunshine did not help our cause but we did manage a 6lb fish from Grey Mare on Monday morning which is always a good way to start a week. A 2lb sea trout was landed in Glisters on Thursday and a 7lb fish was landed in Glisters on Friday (pictured below) aswell as a 2lb sea trout from Upper Ferroch. One or two fish were lost during the day aswell as in the evening if you could put up with the midgies. The forecast is for some heavy rain today so hopefully we get a rise for this coming week.
Cheers Brian.1. Mark Purvis, 7lb Salmon, Glisters

After the good fishing we had last week I thought it may have continued but things were much quieter. The river was down a few inches but almost the same height as the corresponding week last year when we did catch a good few, however we did get a 7lb licer from Cottage on Tuesday on a size 10 cascade, followed by a 3lb sea trout from Rock Heads. A sea trout from Grey Mare on Friday & another from Upper Ferroch on Saturday about 3lb each and that was it for the week. Although the fishing was slow this past week the Webb party and visiting friends had a fantastic time at Cairnton. (pictured below)Cheers Brian

The best week of the season so far with 10 fish. Monday saw us landing 3 fish all on a size 8 Tosh. Upper Ferroch - one of 12lb, Grey Mare - 10lb, Cottage - 10lb. Tuesday 1 from Rock Heads - 10lb on a Cascade & Upper Ferroch - 9lb on an Arndilly. Wednesday - 1 from Grey Mare at 9lb on a Stoat Tail. Thursday - 1 from Glisters at 9lb on a Stoat Tail, Grey Mare- 12lb on a Stoat Tail & a 10lb fish in Upper Ferroch on 4" Red Francis. Friday we blanked but got our 10th on Saturday was a 7lb fish from Invercannie on a size 6 Cascade. It was good to see fish caught all over which gives everyone a chance and on a variety of flies. Hope for more of the same next week.
Cheers Brian.

A good start to last week with the river sitting at 1ft 11in on Monday, crystal clear and we saw few fish, connecting with four but only landing two of them, the best being a 12lb long tailed licer in the Cottage landed on a small Monkey. By Tuesday morning the river had risen to 4ft 6ins on the Cairnton gauge which did suit Lower Ferroch where a 7lb liced fish was landed on a size 6 Cascade. Wednesday looked more like it with fish being seen coming through Rock Heads but they weren't hanging about but a nice 11lb er was landed in Middle Ferroch on a Flamethrower. On Thursday one was lost in the Malt Steep and again fish were seen coming through Rock Heads but not stopping. On Friday again fish were seen but not an offer. Saturday the river rose again and was peaty so I'd have to say the unsettled conditions didn't do us any favours this past week . Forecast for next few days looks better so if the river behaves we should pick away.
Cheers Brian

Weather and water condition's last week were very unsettled which didn't help the catches with some days feeling like February again and other days more like you would expect for May. The week started off with the water a bit high at 3ft 4in but pretty good fishing conditions. Tuesday was a few inches lower but still looked good with the very odd fish to be seen. Wednesday we landed our first of the week at 12lb from Garden Run on a Willie Gunn. Wednesday pm saw the weather turn very cold with a few hail showers. Thursday was similar, but with a gale blowing it made it very hard going. On Friday it was back to spring weather although the river had risen and turned peaty but a fish was landed from Grey Mare on a size 12 Black Sheep. Saturday we got another rise which sort of finished our chances. Hopefully things are more settled for the coming week.
Cheers Brian
