    Bank Report - Sunday 2nd February 2020

2020 got off to a really great start for us after well-known salmon fisher Phil Walker said a few words and blessed the water with a dram from the quaich which was made by the late Dave Cowie at the Middle Ferroch. The quaich was made from a limb that came off the old scots pine tree, known as the Old Warrior, at the Middle Ferroch where the water was blessed.

Conditions for the day were pretty good with the height on Cairnton gauge at 2’ 4” and the water temperature 38f and good clarity with the odd shower floating about.

All the guests were veteran Cairnton fishers so they knew the beat very well. All had kelts which were very well mended as well as various offers in the morning from both banks. After lunch conditions had almost improved slightly with the air temperature creeping up a bit and it wasn’t long before Andy Ashcroft had landed the beats first fish of 2020 which was about 6lb followed by another of 7lb and not to be out done, Grahame Reid landed one of 8lb. All three fish were landed in the Malt Steep and all on 1 ¼” gold bodied Willie Gunn’s.

So a fantastic start for our season and as the reports started to drift in about other catches up and down the water, a good one for the river Dee also.

Weather conditions for the week ahead look not too bad so hopefully we can pick up one or two more fresh ones in the coming days.

You can check all rod availability and prices on our website and then contact Sarah to book. (card payments accepted)
