This was a frustrating week with the unsettled water levels & seeing plenty of fish, but we still managed 4 salmon & 1 grilse plus a 2lb seatrout.
Monday I met up with Mike Richardson who was fishing for the week plus Michael Botham and his friend Jonathan who were fishing for 3 days. Michael lost a fish on a skated sunray. Unfortunately that’s all the sport that they had.
On Thursday I had Christian brogaux from Switzerland who didn’t speak a word of English so I had a Challenge on my hands explaining lines flies etc. I realised quite quickly that waving my arms around wasn’t working. Thank goodness for google translator. On Thursday Christian hooked a 12lb hen fish in the Grey mare using an extra superfast sink tip, 1” Red pot belly pig. After a few pictures she was on her way.
Mike Richardson was very unlucky with the weather again this season. But he managed a 2lb sea trout from the Old garden run.
It was nice catching up with Richard and Ken from the Isle of Man. Sadly no joy but both still left the beat with a smile.
Over at Middle Blackhall I met up with Simon Boyden and his two friends who were fishing for the 3 days starting on Thursday. Sadly the river was big at 3’9 and carrying some colour., But over night the river dropped and Simon caught two salmon 6lb & 9lb from the Malt steep using an extra superfast sink tip with a heavy tube fly.
Saturday Simon caught a 7lb from the malt steep on a black and orange snelda. Derek got a 4lb fish in Invercannie on a cascade conehead.
We seen plenty of fish so let’s hope we get a few this coming week.
Tight lines
