This was a challenging week due to the rise in water most of the week.  But we managed 2 salmon & 3 sea trout.

Monday morning the river was over 3’6” on the beats gauge & carrying a lot of colour. I had new clients on the beat, Mr J Craven-Smith & his family over at Middle Blackhall.  I met James & his son Henry at the hut we walked the beat & spoke about lines, flys ect. We got started in the malt steep. We fished it well but sadly no offers.

Tuesday the river had dropped over night and was reading 2’9 on the gauge.

Henry started in the malt steep with a floating line with an extra superfast sink tip with a copper tube monkey. He landed a 3 lb sea trout on his 1st run down the pool. In the afternoon Henry struck lucky with a 12lb salmon from the tail of the pool. The salmon had been in the river for a week or two.

On Wednesday Mr J .C smith caught a fresh sea trout from the Kelpie using a copper Willie Gunn, on his last run down the pool before heading home.

Thursday I had Micheal McCanenay and two friend over at blackhall.

Sadly Micheal lost a salmon in the Malt Steep. He was using a willie Gunn on Fast sink tip.

Friday night Bob lost a cracking salmon at the net again in the malt steep.

On Saturday the river started rising which killed it.

On the Cairnton bank My fishers were Mr C Auld who again were 1st visitors to the beat. Sadly the height of the river favoured Blackhall But we stuck at it we seen a few fish heading and tailing.

On Wednesday Neil Maclead landed a fresh sea trout from the Middle Ferroch using a size 8 yellow Ally shrimp on a fast sink tip.

Friday afternoon Torbjorn Anderson from Sweden fished at Cairnton and caught a fresh 10lb salmon from the Malt steep using a sink 2/3 with one of my favourites, a 7cm Orange Samurai. Tobjorn fished the beat very well he wasn’t frightened to use different tactics.

I hope river levels, drop over the weekend so we can fish the beat properly.

    Tight lines

    Terry
