This was a disappointing week with only 2 salmon and 3 sea trout, for both banks.

At the start of the week the river was reading 9 inches on the cairnton gauge.

On Monday night I caught a cracking 2 lb sea trout in the long pool, using a 1’ copper willie gun.

Due to the heavy rain the river started rising on Tuesday. It was carrying a lot of colour & started dropping on Wednesday. It looked promising for the tail end of the week. On Thursday I invited Andy and Grahame to fish at Middle Blackhall.

Grahame was rewarded with a 7lb sea lice salmon from the Malt steep using a size 8 Casade, Andy was also on the scoresheet with a 2lb sea trout, using a willie gun tube.

On the Cairnton bank I had James Madden & Mike Richardson who fished the full week on the north bank.

Sadly Mike Richardson hooked and lost a fish in Grey mare on the Saturday morning.

James caught a fresh sea trout around 2lb in Invercannie using a slow sink tip with a black & blue shrimp. James was also rewarded with a 10lb salmon from the Grey Mare using the same set up.

Let’s hope the river settles over the weekend and pull’s in fish from the beats below.

    Tight lines Terry
