Last week was a better week for us with 9 Salmon and 3 Grilse being landed with the latter end of the week being the better. Water Temperatures cooled as the week went on which certainly got the fish switched on. The biggest landed was by Brandon Bryant in Glisters on a Ghillie fly and was 15lb. The usual patterns of fly were doing the trick, Cascade's, Pot Bellied Pigs and big Francis flies.
Again for the coming week we could do with some rain to keep the pools at a reasonable fishing height which is on the forecast for the first half of the week plus it will feel more like Autumn with some frost forecast also.
A few rods left over the last couple of weeks of the season so please get in touch with Sarah to book after looking at our availability on our website. www.cairnton.co.uk/fishing-availability

This past week was fairly hard going for us with the over head late summer sunshine, warm air temperature and the water temperature still sitting at 50f and above but apart from all that we still managed to land 4 Grilse, all about the 4lb mark and a coloured fish of 7lb. The usual small Cascades and Ally's Shrimps did the trick on full floaters and with tips. There are a fair number of fish lying in most of the pools but the same as the last few week, they are not very keen and we are needing a drastic change in conditions, a good flood or a few nights of frost to get them stirred up.
The forecast is for cooler air temperatures coming in from mid week and some rain later in the week.
We have very little rod availability on Cairnton over the last few weeks of the 2020 season but we have a number of rods each week available on Middle Blackhall. Middle Blackhall really has performed well this season and should not be underestimated. Rods for Middle Blackhall are £66 per rod per day in vat so why not give it a try.

We picked away at them last week with 3 Salmon, 6 Grilse and one Sea Trout landed. The highlight of the week was a 21lb cock fish for Dee regular Andy Ashcroft from the Upper Ferroch on a Sunray shadow. The rest of the fish landed were on a variety of flies between large Snaeldas of various colours, down to size 14 Stoat Tails with most fish being coloured but still the odd freshish looking one showing here and there but they weren't very keen with the current river conditions being on the low side and the water temperature in the low to mid 50s,f.
There is a small rise of a few inches coming through today that might freshen things up a little bit for the coming week.
We have rods available this coming week so please check our availability page for details.

We had not too bad a start and finish this past week with 1 Salmon and 3 Grilse landed on Monday/Tuesday then Wednesday to Friday drew a blank, then we had 2 Salmon and 1 Grilse on Saturday. There are enough fish in the pools to keep interests up, mainly coloured fish but still the odd fresh one or two about but again they are not very keen on taking much even with the water temperature dropping a bit and good enough conditions all week.Flies that were doing the trick for us this week were Sunrays, Ian Bain specials and Stoat tails.
There is a bit of rain in the forecast for late Monday into Tuesday and a bit on Friday so we will see if this changes the mood of the fish.
We have some rods available on both banks throughout this coming week. Please look at the availability page on our website for details.

Last week was much better for us from mid week onwards following another good rise and a drop in water temperatures which produced 6 Salmon, 5 Grilse and 1 Sea trout.
The start of the week looked fairly promising with good enough conditions and a fish or two about and I was surprised we blanked on Monday and Tuesday apart from a 2lb Sea Trout on the latter but that was going to change on Wednesday with heavy rain the previous day. The river was up about 3 1/2ft and the water temperature was down to 48f and we landed 3 fish, with the largest being 10lb by Mark Crampton Smith in the Middle Ferroch. Thursday was a very good day also with 4 landed and the largest being 11lb by Alec Pettigrew in the Malt Steep. Thursday was also a very good day for Edmund Mackay the great great grandson of AHE Wood who was fishing in the Lower Ferroch and landed a very fresh Grilse of 5lb on a Willie Gunn. Friday we had two Grilse and Saturday also produced two Grilse.
This coming week looks to be dry at the start of the week with daytime temperatures dropping then rain on Wednesday which should keep the levels topped up a bit.
We have rods available on Middle Blackhall tomorrow and Tuesday and 2 rods available on Cairnton on Saturday. please check the availability page on our website for further details.

This past week we got off to a very good start, within five minutes on Monday morning long serving Cairnton fisher Mike Richardson landed a bright Grilse of about 5lb in the Upper Ferroch on a small Black & Yellow tube but very oddly that was it for the week apart from two fish lost on Wednesday and no other offers or pulls.
The fish catch certainly does not reflect the numbers of fish that are lying in pretty much all the pools. They are mostly coloured but still enough freshish ones about that you would expect an offer from, so its more frustrating than it is disappointing, at least they are there.
The forecast looks like its going to be good enough conditions for tomorrow then a fair bit of wind and rain on Tuesday/Wednesday which might change things around but lets wait and see.
We have 1 rod available on Cairnton on Monday to Wednesday this coming week and rods available on Middle Blackhall all week. All availability can be viewed on our website. www.cairnton.co.uk/fishing-availability and then contact Sarah to book. sarah@cairntonestate.co.uk or 01224 872702.

This past week turned out to be very quiet for us on the fish catching side of things although there were still plenty about but they were very dour with the only offers bring the ones landed. The humid, thundery weather certainly didn't help but the weather did break on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning causing quite a bit of localised flooding and a good 4ft lift in water was on us by midday Wednesday which should have given us a good end to the week however we were happy enough with 2 slightly coloured fish and one fresh grilse.
This coming week looks to be a bit cooler with with some light rain on Tuesday/Wednesday from an easterly direction.
We have a couple of rods available on Cairnton at the end of the week so please get in touch to book.
Cheers Brian
