Last week was a bit hard going on the fishing front for us with a couple of fish connected with and lost up until Friday evening. With really good water levels all week and some beautiful early spring weather it was looking like we were heading for a blank week however on Saturday morning Jon Nørstad Flotve who was part of a large Norwegian fishing party headed by Roald Meyer hooked and landed a lovely 8lb er in the Middle Ferroch on a Sunray variant of his own tying and thankfully saved the blank week. Incidentally there were a few others hooked and lost on Saturday also.
The week a head looks as though tomorrow will be the nicest and from Tuesday onwards turning colder with winds from a Northerly direction.
Cheers Brian

A quiet start to the week considering the lovely fishing conditions that we had for the first three days. The last half of the week was much better and especially for Johnathan Lane who landed a 19lb fish in the Malt Steep on Thursday afternoon on a 1 1/2" Gold Willie Gunn. On Friday Johnathan was on form again with a 7lb er from the Upper Ferroch on the same fly while over on the Middle Blackall side John Webb landed his 4th fish of the season with us from Cairnton pool on his usual 1 1/4" G,W,G. and was about 7.5lb and liced. Saturday was near perfect conditions with a couple of fish seen but nothing to report.
Conditions for this coming week look pretty good.
Some rods available over the next few weeks so check our website for availability.

A lovely start to the week with really good conditions with the height at 1' 6" on Monday. It was great to see the return of Adrian Brightly's party who have fished the beat for many years. Tuesday and Wednesday were a similar height to Monday and we did manage a 9lb er on Wednesday afternoon in the Old Garden on a single 1/0 Editor . Thursday things were changing a bit with the river up a couple of feet along with a strong Southerly wind blowing but still fishable. Friday was the same but by Saturday morning the river was up to 9ft and carrying plenty of colour and debris and unfishable. Today the river is back down to 4ft and running fairly clear again and with the week ahead looking more settled the river should drop away nicely.

A good finish to February for the beat with Andy Ashcroft landing a 10lb fish in the Malt Steep (Middle Blackhall) on Monday morning on a Monkey fly. It was Andy's first run through the pool and his second off the beat so far this season.
March began with like a day you would see in May with bright sunshine and very little wind plus a lovely water height. The rest of the week was again looking favorable with pretty good water levels and over head conditions but we didn't manage to get on the score sheet. There is still the very odd kelt to be seen but it looks as though most have moved on.
The week ahead looks quite settled until mid week then some rain and wind returning for the latter half.
We have some rods available over the next few weeks so please get in contact with Sarah to book.

A reasonable week water height wise for us apart from Thursday when it was up a couple of feet but it was still fairly clear and dropping and apart from the wind that appeared to never ease off and a few heavy showers here and there conditions were fairly good so no complaints. No fresh fish landed this week although a couple were seen on Friday and one lost. We are still getting a few well mended kelts & Sea Trout kelts and we also saw our first Oyster catchers of the year which is a few days later than normal but always good to see.
The week ahead looks fairly mixed with a few rain bands coming from the west with some over night frosts and winds from a westerly direction at the start of the week which swings round to the east for the second half.
We have rods available over the next few weeks so please check our availability listing on our website and contact Sarah to book. www.cairnton.co.uk

A really good start to the week, helped by the rise over the weekend with two fish being landed on Monday. Andy Ashcroft landed his first of the season in the Middle Ferroch on an Alistair and was 8lb then over on the Middle Blackhall side John Webb landed his second of the season in the Malt Steep on a Gold Willie Gunn and was 9lb. Conditions were pretty good for the first half of the week and John Webb did it again late on Wednesday afternoon on Middle Blackhall with an 8lb er in same pool and on the same fly as Monday. As forecast the wind on Thursday was a pain to deal with but not impossible. Fridays heavy snow forecast was pretty accurate but it wasn't too bad with the milder air temperature making it quite pleasant to fish in for the dedicated fisher! An overnight frost Friday into Saturday and bright sunshine all day made Saturday the nicest day of the season so far.
Currently the forecast for the coming week is a mixture of sunshine and rain showers for the first part of the week with some higher winds forecast midweek, clearing to a more settled end to the week.
We have some rods available over the next couple of weeks. Check availability on our website www.cairnton.co.uk and details on how to book.

Through a lot of hard fishing effort, some nice conditions and some not so nice with mainly the strong westerly winds hampering us, well known Dee angler John Webb managed to land our first fish of 2022 on Wednesday in the Floating Bank on the Middle Blackhall side on a Gold bodied Willie Gunn. John's fish was 9lb and very fresh. There are still a few kelts about but most seemed to have moved on compared to what had been there the previous week.
Although the water conditions have been pretty good we could do with a good rise to see if that stirs anything up. We have had a bit of a rise overnight which should help us a bit for start of the week. Weather for the week ahead looks to be getting colder with the chance of some snow but the winds being quite changeable.
We have rods available on both banks over the few weeks so if you fancy a go please get in touch with Sarah and she will get you booked in. All availability and details on how to book are on our website.
