Had a very wet Friday morning, which brought the river up to almost 3ft, it was very peaty and frothy yesterday, that's probably why we didn't catch anything, saw a few, so prospects better for next week.
We had two new boys to salmon fishing for the last three days. While fishing the Spout, just before lunch, I saw a grilse lying at the bottom of the pool, I told him to try for it, the first time the fly went past the fish moved away but came back, the next time a perfect surface take, it was a 3lb grilse, well done Rob, His brother Geordie was not so fortunate, he tried very hard fishing late into Saturday night, but no luck, better luck the next time. Its great to see young people taking up salmon fishing.
I am on holiday for the next two weeks, no where exciting, putting a new roof on my house, normally I am wanting rain, but I hope it doesn't rain for a while.
Might not be a report for the next two weeks.

Still a few grilse running, sea trout a bit of a disaster this year.
We caught a 12lb hen fish (slightly coloured) in the Cottage pool, put up a good fight, well done Dod.
The river level is dropping and the temperature is rising, not much sign of a change in the weather, but as long as a few fresh fish are running we have a chance.
Been very warm during the day,(lost a few lbs strimming) hopefully it will stop the grass growing.

At last the grilse look to be entering the river, later than usual, looks as if the season is heading the same as last year.
Very few sea trout, one of the few or only caught in this area wasn't caught by an angler, but the osprey, unfortunately I didn't witness it, one up to the osprey.
The weather has turned a lot colder, north wind and heavy showers, forecast a bit warmer next week.

Hope everybody spotted the deliberate mistake last week, two grilse short on the total, must have had to much to drink , or not enough on Saturday evening, sorry for the confusion.
Had a very wet day on Thursday, river rose to almost 4ft, but turned very peaty, no sign of fish running, when it clears up should be better. The wind went round to the north and turned very cold, kept the midges away.

Fisher did well for the conditions, very sunny some days, we had a small rise in mid week but it has dropped back by the weekend. Got two grilse yesterday both covered in sea lice, the fisher says he has never seen such long tails on the lice, glad to see a few fish still running in low water.
Sea trout very disappointing, nowhere catching a lot, getting a bit late for them this season.

One of our fishers this week must have been practicing for a diving competition, first forward then backwards, he had dropped his wife's wadding stick, but managed to retrieve it, sorry for laughing Johnnie.

The fisher tried hard, even fishing late and being eaten alive by midges, still they went home with a nice suntan.
On Thursday afternoon the wind got up a bit and one of the fishers caught the back of his hand, both barbs well embedded, but he was very brave when I pulled it out, not even a whimper from Alan.

The water level is gradually dropping, most of the snow must be gone. It has turned a bit colder, so that might slow the fish down, hopefully.

The boot was on the other foot yesterday, I normally laugh when somebody falls in, but when i was landing a fish in Russell I over balanced and jumped in, much to the delight of fishers on both banks.

I don't need to tell you the fishers had a difficult week, very few fish showing, they caught 4 kelts (spelts as one of them called them, at first he thought he had caught a springer, but looking at the photo it was a kelt).
They had to endure blizzards, wind, rain and freezing rings, one had toothache and another lost a days fishing due to flu, so if anyone deserved a springer they did.
There is quite a lot of snow on the hills, so that should help river levels in the weeks to come.

The river was running very peaty for the first half of the week, it was back to being gin clear on Friday, but on Friday evening we had a lot of rain, and the river rose from 1ft 6ins on Friday to almost 6ft on Saturday lunch time, it dropped quite quick, and by evening it was back to 4ft 3ins.
After fishing all week the two fishers managed to land a salmon and sea trout between them in the Grey Mare on Saturday night, well done John and Denis.

We had a lot of thundery weather this week, which made the river levels go up and down.
On Friday night the river was rising and very peaty coloured, but one fisher who had been coming for nine years managed to catch his first Cairnton salmon in the Grey Mare, a beautiful sealiced 11.5 lbs pounder, he had caught grilse and sea trout before. Well done John.
Still not seeing a lot of fish, when it cleans up, they might start showing.

We had good water levels this week, but it was quite coloured some days. There even was some snow on the tops of the mountains, so much for global warming.
We got our first grilse, a lovely sea liced one in the Grey Mare, still not a lot of grilse running yet. The sea trout we got weighed 3 lbs, caught in the Colonel , well done Barrie.
There was a lot rain last night, the river will probably rise today, or at least stay at a good level.

It has rained for the last 24 hrs, a severe weather warning for this area for the rest of the day. The river rose to 7 ft last night and is falling just now, but I think it could easily rise again.
On Thursday evening there was a thunder storm at Braemar, and by lunchtime Friday the river was so dirty it was unfishable, cleared out a few hours later.
The fishing party left on Saturday afternoon, as the river had risen and was very coloured, they were fishless for the week.
A fisher came on Sat.evening and caught the only sea trout of the week, well done Graham.
Only one ducking this week.

Been a changeable week weatherwise, we even had frost one morning. One of the sea trout recorded was from last week, still no sign of the grilse, it has been raining for the last 24hrs, not very heavy, but the river has risen a little, we could have done with some of the rain they had in the north of England.

The river temperature has climbed up, so three fishers, (who shall be nameless) decided to have a swim, all in the Grey Mare, fortunately non of them hurt themselves, just their pride.

Now, looking forward to working for the new owners, hopefully seeing all the regular fishers in the coming year.

River kept dropping all week, down to -1ins and the temp rose to 67 degrees, with very few fish moving about, hard work for the fishers. We have had a bit of rain last night so hopefully we might get a rise next week.

The weather has been very warm this week, a lot of midges in the late evenings. We had a rise on Saturday morning, but it dropped back during the day, must have been a lot of rain in the hills, I can hear thunder this morning, so perhaps it will rise again.

We had two rapid rises in river levels, river very peaty, we are still not seeing a lot of fish, the fishers had a lot of contacts, the fish must have been coming short.
I had to have my old dog Bud put down, he broke his front leg, a great loss he was 14yrs old.

We had some rain this week, enough to make the grass grow, but not enough to put the river up and make the fish run, most days were very sunny and hot, hard work for the fishers. Still preying for rain.

River getting down to summer levels, with very few fish running. Hard work for the fishers, one was rewarded for getting up very early yesterday, he caught the only salmon of the week. Hope for some rain this week.

Cold at the begining of the week, warmed up a lot made the fishing a lot more enjoyable. The fish seem to be running through, more sea trout showing.

River rose 2ft on Thursday, and turned the water very peaty, that seemed to put the fish down. One fisher got two fish on Saturday within 30 mins after lunch, his first ever salmon, both were caught at the top of the Grey Mare.

Not many fish showing this week, the temp went up to 53 degrees mid week, but the wind went round to the north so that dropped the temp of the air and the water. One of our fishers lost two salmon on, Friday and Saturday one a big fish in the Upper Ferroch, but he was rewarded on Saturday evening with 2 salmon & 1 sea trout.
